In fact, the folks over at Computerworld have investigated and then concluded that the new 2016 MacBook Pro could be the fastest computer on the planet, thanks largely to its super-fast PCIe-based Solid State Drive (SSD).

As a basis for comparison, the previous early-2015 MacBook Pros were rated for SSD performance consisting of peak sequential read speeds of 1.6GBps and maximum sequential write speeds of 1.5GBps. Those numbers were huge at the time, and benchmarks backed them up. Now, though, with the 2016 MacBook Pro here, Apple has once again upped the ante.

Starting with the 13-inch MacBook Pro, Apple’s own specifications claim sequential read/write speeds of 3.1Gbps and 2.1Gbps, respectively. The new 15-inch model increases the numbers with write speeds to 2.2Gbps, while the read speed remain the same as the 13-inch. The upshot of all that? No matter which screen size you buy, the SSD within the new MacBook Pro is, theoretically at least, really, really fast, even when compared to last year’s MacBook Pro. That’s impressive stuff.

With quad-core Intel i7 chips capable of speeds of 2.7GHz married with 16GB of fast RAM and that storage we just mentioned, the new high-end MacBook Pro should be a force to be reckoned with. If you own one, we suspect there will be very little it struggles with, perhaps further driving home the fact that few people need desktop machines anymore. With Apple neglecting the Mac Pro, Mac mini and iMac to an extent, it’s possible the company would agree.

Talking to Computerworld, Objective Analysis analyst Jim Handy said that he believes Apple’s decision to go for the PCIe SSD will soon trickle down to the rest of the PC market within the next couple of years, so it’s safe to say that from amongst all of Apple’s decisions for its new flagship notebook lineup, this particular one seems to be the most likely to form a trend.

It looks like the Software giant may have inadvertently answered part of that riddle by posting, and subsequently deleting, a blog post with the title “Microsoft announces Windows 10 anniversary update available Aug. 2“. Anyone for an August 2nd Windows 10 update?

We can’t exactly take that date as an “official” confirmation just yet, but it’s a fairly good sign of when it’s about to come. In reality, it would appear that someone within Microsoft accidentally pressed publish on the blog post a little ahead of the actual plan. There is of course a chance that the date shown is wrong, but at the very least we can expect an official and formal announcement on the availability of Windows 10 Anniversary Update to come out from Microsoft very soon.

So, we have a good indication of the approximate time that the update will arrive on, but what about the improvements and feature additions contained within? The update itself was originally announced during the company’s annual Build conference back in March of this year.

The primary focus of this update will be Windows Ink, with the intention being to integrate additional features and improvements that will provide users with a more powerful experience when interacting with Windows 10 content through a stylus. Given the number of different device types that Windows 10 is available on, it makes perfect sense that Microsoft is looking to improve that input type.

Additionally, Microsoft will also focus engineering resources on making improvements to Windows Hello as well as Cortana – the company’s voice activated digital assistant that is starting to become a pivotal part of the Windows 10 experience. The company will also introduce extensions to its web browser, Edge, which will allow additional functions to be added to the browser through third-party developer extensions.

When it arrives, the Anniversary Update will be free to everyone who already have Windows 10 installed, but will require a payment of approximately $119 for those looking to upgrade from earlier versions of Windows.

We probably don’t need to tell you this, but losing your iPhone is always going to be a traumatic experience. Photographs, videos, auto recordings, emails and so on, all gone with the device unless there has been some kind of cloud backup in place.

If a device is lost or stolen, then the chances are that you’re working with your network or local law enforcement to try and retrieve it, or at a minimum, try and block the device from being used which is where the IMEI and serial numbers come in.

Unfortunately, not many of us actually believe that we will lose our devices or have them stolen. But when we do, it’s often to late and the damage has been done.That’s where having a remote copy of the device details, including the IMEI/serial number of the iPhone, becomes extremely beneficial. That number can then be instantly given to the network to block and blacklist the device, and to law enforcement to be able to start a case file against the theft.

If you haven’t made a note of your device’s IMEI or serial number, and find yourself in a position where you need it, then thankfully it is possible to get it easily from Apple’s account management. Yes, there are some other methods too to get this info, but this in our opinion is by far the simplest and easiest. Here’s what you need to do.

Step 1: First and foremost, you’re going to need to head over to appleid.apple.com, and log in using your existing Apple ID credentials.

Step 2: Once logged in successfully, scroll down below to Devices and click on View Details to see a list of all Apple devices running your Apple ID.

Step 3: You will then be requested to answer two security questions to verify that you’re the actual account holder, so answer those questions and hit the Continue button to proceed.

Step 4: Once answered correctly, you’ll then be able to view the details held against the devices you own utilizing that iCloud account, including the IMEI and Serial number.

Thanks to a number of information and component leaks, we’ve been able to get an early insight into what the iPhone 7 could look and function like, and now we are hearing that both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus could ship with larger 256GB storage options for those who want capacities of mammoth proportions, with 32GB being base model, and 128GB replacing 64GB as mid-tier option.

It’s been an interesting couple of days when it comes to news pertaining to Apple’s internal policies and release cycles. Yesterday we heard that the Cupertino-based giant was likely to move to a new ‘tick-tock-tock’ style full-model refresh cycle that would essentially see a brand new and revamped iPhone released into the market every three years. If that is accurate, then it means that this year’s iPhone 7 will very much be an evolutionary progression of the device, and will likely feature very minimal changes over the current-generation iPhone 6s range.

Typically speaking, Apple has been offering entry-level iPhones with a minimal 16GB internal capacity, with consumers then having the option of upgrading to a 64GB or 128GB variant for an additional financial outlay. A report recently had already claimed that the base model of iPhone 7 will start from 32GB storage instead of 16GB, and now the folks at TrendForce adds in that mid-tier 64GB option might be replaced by 128GB, with 256GB storage option being set for top-tier.

“Apple is likely to make changes to the storage options for iPhone 7. The 64GB version, which has been the most popular option in previous generations, may be discontinued and replaced by the 128GB version, though this decision has yet to be finalized. On the other hand, Apple is certain to raise the maximum storage option to 256GB so that iPhone 7 will have the highest NAND Flash density of the entire series.”

If Apple does decide to raise the storage level of the base iPhone model to 32GB while simultaneously upping the top storage to 256GB, with mid-tier option being 128GB, it would seem to come on the back of listening to consumer feedback as well as capitalizing on the falling price of NAND flash storage, which has reduced significantly in price over the last six months. We can’t imagine anyone would complain if the pricing structure of the new iPhone is mapped across to be consistent with previous models.

The very idea of a sleek, mysterious looking Galaxy S7 Edge emblazoned with the Batman logo is more than enough to raise excitement levels within most of us. After all, it’s a Batman-themed phone complete with a gorgeous gold Batman logo on the rear. How cool is that?

However, as you might expect from two behemoth companies, Samsung and Warner Bros. appear to have gone a few steps further than simply taking the phone and slapping a Batman logo on its back. This time around, rather than try to convince the user that an Apple ID is “about to expire”, this latest scam goes a step further to try and scare the receiver into action by informing them outright that their iCloud ID has actually been deactivated.

Matt Prior, an England cricketer, is amongst those who have received the message in the United Kingdom, subsequently attempting to confirm its authenticity via Twitter, only to be responded by @AppleSupport stating that this is indeed a phishing scam.

Of course, anyone well versed within these matters will instantly understand that tapping on the embedded link would redirect you to a fake Apple login page designed to send the entered Apple ID and password back to a remote server. The malicious individuals involved would then either sell those account details to an unscrupulous buyer, or use the account information themselves in a malicious manner. With that said, on first glance it could be deemed to be genuine, and has therefore probably caught quite a few people out.

Apple has previously published support pages warning against the dangers of scams of this nature. The Cupertino-based company – like any other company for that matter – will never issue text messages or emails requesting full account details to be issued by reply, and advises that “most often” attachments and non-Apple links in correspondence are “malicious and should not be opened”. If you receive this message, delete it instantly and do not tap the link.
